Oil painting on two wood panels

This is the last painting I started before having my baby girl. A few months later I finished it with her on my hip. The title commemorates my own life change and transition into motherhood. I started this painting at 39 weeks pregnant and wanted to do one last thing that felt normal. The end of pregnancy is long & I wanted to paint the rowers one last time…(I’d been on a 6 month rower painting kick) of course the day I chose to go; the water was frozen solid. Nobody was on the water. It felt like the end of my time being just my own was marked so clearly on this day in mid February. At 39 weeks…it was really my last shot to be starting anything new before having my baby. I chose to paint what I saw despite the dissappointment of the rowers being tucked away in their boathouses. The sun glared on the water and the snow sparkled a vivid blue. The cars raced down Kelly drive (as always) & I drew my thumbnails in the cold and went home and started my last new painting before motherhood.
